Hope n Mic #Stand4Rohigya is an event to raise money to help provide emergency relief and medical aid to the Rohingya in Bangladesh. Salam Jones and his team will be personally going to the Bangladesh border, to bring aid and medical supplies to the Rohingya. This trip is self funded and ALL money raised will be used towards this cause.

Her style is deeply rooted in the Bengali folk Baul tradition which she carries forward and experiments using western instruments. She performs with her jazz band across the UK and abroad.

Thursday 21st - Shapla Salique + Band. Radio Asia Festival, Warsaw, Poland

The artist employs traditional Bengali music to create its most refined combinations with jazz and soul vibrations, introducing the new generations of audiences to the somehow forgotten local folklore. Her work is rooted in the songs of Bauls, nomadic mystics, god’s madcaps, performing extremely emotional pieces, expressing spiritual fulfillment and mystical experiences. Following the Bauls’ footsteps, Shapla Salique uses a melodic, trans form to present love songs accompanied by traditional, Bangladeshi instruments (tabla, harmonium, ektara) and the smooth-jazz sounds of double bass, drums, acoustic guitar and saxophone.

Ian Shaw invites the Hannah Horton Quartet to join him on the final day of his week long residencay at one of London's best jazz venues. This will be an amazinf show full of energy, fun and great vibes.

East London raised singer-songwriter, Shapla Salique is known for her incredibly powerful voice and edgy acoustic Bengali folk music with jazz and funk influences. Shapla is one of Britain’s most successful British-Bangladeshi artists. Her soulful sound has captivated audiences worldwide, from London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and Houses of Parliament to Canada and Italy. Shapla’s dynamic spiritual melodies and soaring vocals are gaining her recognition on the world music scene. Most recently she has been featured in Songlines magazine and has received a great review for her new album ‘No Boundaries’. Her style is deeply rooted in the Bengali folk Baul tradition which she carries forward and experiments using western instruments. She performs with her jazz band across the UK and abroad. Shapla has been singing and performing since she was a little girl. The Hannah Horton Quartet will be joined by Ian Shaw, one of the most distinctive,original and creative jazz singers in the UK. Twice winner of BBC Jazz Awards Best Vocalist, Ian has amassed a number of highly acclaimed albums. Collaborators over the years include Quincy Jones, Abudullah Ibrahim, Guy Barker, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Iain Ballamy, Mornington Lockett, Barb Jungr, Cleo Laine and John Dankworth.

Jazz vocalist Esther Bennett is a regular performer on the London Jazz scene, wowing audiences with her seductive vibrato and enticing lower register. Having originally played alto saxophone before turning to voice, she sings a mix of jazz standards and more contemporary material. Performing regularly at the 606 Jazz Club, The Vortex jazz Club, The Spice of Life, Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer and Pizza Express Jazz Club - her innate sense of musicality gleaned from her earlier saxophone playing and study of the jazz idiom, informs a voice that has individuality, originality and flair. Her first album "Just in Time" (now available on Jazzcds) was produced by BBC Jazz Vocalist of the year (and performer at All That Jazz Club) Ian Shaw.

John Etheridge and The Hannah Horton Quartet collaborate again after their sell-out performances at Haverhill Arts in 2013 and 2015.

John Etheridge rightly enjoys a glowing reputation throughout the jazz world and beyond and has been described by Pat Metheny as, "One of the best guitarists in the world". He is a prodigiously gifted and creative player whose approach to music can only be described as 'eclectic' as he refuses to accommodate or even acknowledge artificial musical boundaries. His range is well illustrated by his years of touring and recording with the iconic Stephane Grappelli while simultaneously doing likewise with the legendary jazz-fusion group, The Soft Machine. John is equally at home on acoustic and electric guitar and his willingness to engage with so many styles is matched by his ability to excel in any of them. He has played with John Williams, Yehudi Menuhin, Dizzie Gillespie, Herb Ellis, Mundell Lowe, Nigel Kennedy, Pat Metheny, Birelli Lagrene, Barney Kessel, Vic Juris and countless others.

I will be making my first appearance at this Sunday evening jazz club that brings some of the UK's greatest Jazz musicians to Felixstowe. World class music, a great atmosphere, and free entrance - the best Sunday night out for miles around!

Friday 27th - All That Jazz Club at Haverhill Arts Centre. Hannah Horton Quartet + Tina May.
All That Jazz Club welcomes back Tina May as guest jazz vocalist with the Hannah Horton Quartet.
Tina May is one of the most popular vocalists on the UK jazz scene, and is a winner of the vocal jazz award at the BT Jazz Awards.  She has sung with big bands and more intimate groups from the BBC Big Band to the Tina May Paris Quintet. Tina May is ‘a real jazz singer. She can sing a straight melody and make it open like a flower’ – Dave Gelly, the Observer 2014.
‘Tina May remains the most expressive and technically gifted jazz singer on the UK scene’ says Kenny Mathieson of The Scotsman and few would disagree.

A natural born improviser from an early age, Hannah has played the saxophone since before high school days. As a youngster she attended the prestigious Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama and in her teens became a lead member of NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra) and the National Youth Music Theatre. At the Trinity College of Music where she graduated with an advanced postgraduate performance diploma, she was coached and inspired by prominent names from the British jazz scene, including Mark Lockheart and Paul Bartholomew. Since then her hallmark velvet tone and versatility have attracted growing audiences. Renowned jazz guitarist John Etheridge, commented: ‘Hannah has a warmly attractive ‘vocal’ sound on both the tenor and baritone saxophone, combined with lovely un-hackneyed phrasing.’
Defying categorisation, Hannah’s music spans jazz, latin, funk, blues and rock along with classical influences. Her unique tone, melodic and creative improvisation, and sensitive phrasing have become her signature sound which is beautifully captured in her debut album Forget Me Not (released October 2012). Featuring the formidable talents of John Crawford (piano), Rob Statham (bass) and Nic France (drums), the album includes her own compositions, an original take on jazz standards such as Caravan, and some lesser known pieces.

Also an in-demand session musician, Quentin has worked with US3, Jocelyn Brown, Omar, Basement Jaxx, and Lulu to name a few. Quentin lists Booker Little, Duke Ellington, Freddie Hubbard and Alex Sipiagin amongst his many musical influences.

Ian Shaw is described as one of the most distinctive, original and creative jazz singers the UK has produced. Twice winner of BBC Jazz Awards Best Vocalist he has few rivals. Ian Shaw has already amassed a number of highly acclaimed internationally released albums and is a popular performer both in the UK and the US. Collaborators over the years have been many and include Quincy Jones, Abudullah Ibrahim, Guy Barker, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Iain Ballamy, Mornington Lockett, Barb Jungr, Cleo Laine, John Dankworth, Cedar Walton, Joe Lovano, Joe Beck and Claire Martin. Ian currently presents The Ronnie Scott’s Radio Show, broadcast on JazzFM91 Canada, which started life on JazzFM UK. Shaw hosted the inaugural JazzFM Jazz Awards in January this year. The Ronnie Scott’s Radio Show continues to flourish on JazzFM91 (Canada) and Jazz901 (Rochester NY) and a special two-hour version forms the monthly-changing British Airways jazz show.
This year Ian Shaw has already performed at many great venues and countries including Ronnie Scotts, The 606 Club, Pizza Express in London, in Canada, Italy and Belgium to name a few.
This will be Ian’s debut at Haverhill Arts and rarely can you get the opportunity to see him live for only £10 a ticket.

Friday 7th - Roger Beaujolais + Hannah Horton Quartet. 8pm, £10.
Roger Beaujolais is the most well-known and popular of the UK's jazz vibraphone players with influences from Lionel Hampton through Milt Jackson to Gary Burton and beyond. He has established himself as a leader of his own bands, a sideman in many top UK groups and as a contributor to many bands associated with the Acid Jazz movement. Roger has also recorded with Duffy, Rumer, Robert Plant, Roni Size, Guy Chambers, Omara Portuondo, Fairground Attraction, Morrissey, Paul Weller and many more.

John Etheridge is one of the world’s most respected guitarists. Not only was he the guitarist for the celebrated jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli, he plays in a duo with the eminent classical guitarist, John Williams and has performed with such greats as Soft Machine, Pat Metheny, Andy Summers, Dizzy Gillespie and Nigel Kennedy. He handles just about any style from 1930s 'Hot Club' swing to flat-out bebop, Frank Zappa avant-rock and Claptonesque blues.

Wednesday 11th - The Fox, Finchingfield. The Hannah Horton Trio will be performing during an amazing six course Christmas gourmet meal - mmm! Alongside the tasty food my trio will be treating you to some great jazz standards, originals, and a few Christmas tunes in our own jazzy way!
